MY COURSES

At the links below you can find teaching materials for two of my courses, previously offered at the Williams College Department of Economics.  Please feel free to re-use these materials, with attribution.

ECON 361: Political Economy and Development
This course seeks to analyze the body of theory and evidence surrounding the question of why and how politics affects economic development.  It is designed to assist students in acquiring the analytical tools needed to analyze the role of political economy and institutions in shaping economic development, and to encourage them to be critical consumers of empirical research.

ECON 460: The Economy of China
This class analyzes the recent development of the Chinese economy, its rapid transformation in the post-Mao period, and the implications of this transformation for the welfare of Chinese households.  While it provides a general analytical foundation for understanding the Chinese economy, the course also has a substantial emphasis on the microeconomic literature that seeks to understand the economic behavior and lives of Chinese households.
